Aveda Institutes South is made up of a passionate team that is dedicated to providing a beauty school education for our students. Hope Starling, from Aveda Institute Tampa Bay, is a perfect example of an educator that not only teaches, but also acts as a mentor to help guide students as they follow their dreams. We asked Hope a few questions about herself and her journey to becoming an Aveda Educator. Read what she had to say below.
Why did you become a hairdresser?
“I spent over 6 years in college trying to find a career that was right for me. I was having a difficult time finding a career that spoke to my passions for art and helping others, when I took a tour of the Aveda Institute St Petersburg I knew I had found what I had been looking for.”
What made you come to Aveda?
“The Mission. Aveda not only makes people beautiful, they also give back to those that help source our ingredients and the world we live in.”
What is your background?
“I have my degree in education and spent a few years as a teacher. I worked in a salon for several years, both behind the chair and front desk. I spent several years doing bridal styling and makeup. I also worked at Home Shopping Network doing hair and makeup for talents on air.”
What is your favorite thing to teach?
“Styling. There is so much freedom to let your creativity to run wild and create something beautiful.”

“Aveda Institute St Petersburg 2009”
What are your hobbies?
“Styling, cutting, and coloring hair. Yoga. Biking. Kayaking. Camping. Anything on the beach. Music festivals.”
