One of the biggest questions future beauty school students have is “How much is cosmetology school going to cost?” or “Can you get Financial Aid for Beauty School?” While an Aveda education is an investment, it can feel overwhelming to get all the information you need to make the right decisions. We’ve rounded up the top questions regarding financial aid options and tuition costs, so you can make an informed decision.

Tuition and Financial Aid Topics we will Cover

    • Financial Aid
    • Required Forms
    • Deadlines for Financial Aid
    • Scholarships
    • Other sources of financial aid
    • Cost of beauty school
    • GI Bill

What types of financial aid do you offer?

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. At AI South, we participate in the Federal Pell grant program and the Federal Direct loan program (Subsidized, Unsubsidized, and PLUS).  We also have private in-house financing and Sallie Mae Career Training Loans available.  A Financial Aid manager is on staff at each location and works closely with students to help make school affordable and to create a financial plan that they are comfortable with.

Do you offer a payment plan that lets me pay my tuition in monthly installments over the academic year?

Yes. If so, what fees do you charge for this service? We want to help make school as affordable as possible for our students, so we offer an interest-free payment plan.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Go to  and click on the “Start a New FAFSA” button.

Does Aveda Institute require its own forms in addition the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?

There are few forms that the Financial Aid Manager will go over with you during your financial aid appointment.

What are the deadlines for applying for financial aid?

This depends on when you are looking to start school.  You can apply at any time, but we recommend you give yourself at least a couple of weeks before your desired class start date.

When will I receive my financial aid award letter?

Typically during your Financial Aid appointment, after your FAFSA has been completed and any additional required documents have been submitted.

If the financial aid award does not cover the full cost of attendance or my circumstances have changed, how do I apply for more financial aid?

The amount of aid that you qualify for is set by the U.S. Department of Education based on a number of factors. If the aid you are awarded does not cover the full cost of attending school, there may be private loan options available. Terms and conditions of Title IV loans may be more favorable than private education loans. Your Financial Aid Manager will discuss all options with you.

What types of scholarships are available?

AI South has a Catwalk for Water scholarship contest that awards full paid and partial scholarships.  This is typically done in the spring in celebration of Earth Month.  As an AACS member school, our prospective students are also eligible to apply for scholarships through Beauty Changes Lives.

Where can I find information about other sources of financial aid, such as state grant programs and scholarships?

There are a number of scholarships and grants available in varying amounts and qualifications.  I tell all of my students to do their research online and to speak with their school counselors.

What is the true cost to attend?

It varies based upon which location you choose to attend. Contact your admissions representative to get an estimated cost to attend.

I’ve heard about the GI Bill, can you explain how students can use this?

There are different types of Veterans benefits; however these benefits are not available at all locations, and are only available to those who qualify.  The Financial Aid Manager will help you determine your eligibility and explain the process during the financial aid appointment.  Each veteran’s benefits may vary, so this can be different for each student.
